About Our Rescue

Hill Country Horse Recuse is a non-profit 501(3)(c) organization. We operate solely on donations and grants awarded to us.

Available to the Hill Country and surrounding counties, the Rescue is a placement facility used by law enforcement who have seized abused horses in animal cruelty cases and owners who could no longer care for their horse(s). Where horses were historically destroyed, they can now be rehabilitated and placed for adoption. Extraordinary care is given to these residents to make sure they are comfortable and loved.

Each horse that comes into our care has a past and most of the time we do not know what that entails. We keep the horses in our care normally between 3-6 months before re-accessing if the horse is ready for adoption. We will take as long as needed to be sure the horse is ready. Our policy is to place the person with the right horse which is why we like to have potential adopters come interact with the horse over several visits.

The rescue also provides owners' education on the proper care and feeding of horses.
